Gold is Bears-Panthers. Green went over, gray went under. Lines are consensus totals and spreads from VegasInsider, so your book may have been a point off.

The quick read

  • Overs went 9-7 in Week 1
  • Books were light by 70 points: the 16 totals added up to 721, and teams scored 791
  • Bears-Panthers did most of that damage alone, clearing a 47.5 total by 48.5 points
  • Without that game, the other 15 were only about 21 points over combined

Biggest overs

  • Bears-Panthers: 96 on a 47.5 total. The total was already cleared by halftime, with 55 points on the board
  • Bills-Texans: 67 on a 44.5 total, against a Texans defense expected to be one of the league's best
  • Ravens-Colts: 64 on 48.5
  • Vikings-Packers: 61 on 46.5, with Minnesota scoring 29 unanswered after losing Kyler Murray

Biggest unders

  • Seahawks-Patriots: 23 on a 44.5 total, the worst miss of the week
  • 49ers-Rams: 34 on 47.5, with LA scoring just 7
  • Cardinals-Chargers: 40 on 47.5

Closest calls on the lines

  • Giants-Cowboys: 48 on a 47.5 total, cleared the total by half a point on Sunday night
  • Raiders-Dolphins: 40 on 40.5, under by half a point
  • Lions-Saints: overtime pushed it over 49.5, which counts, since totals include OT
  • Seahawks -3 won by exactly 3, landing right on the number for a push

Spreads and upsets

  • Favorites went 9-6-1 against the spread
  • Four underdogs won outright: 49ers, Jets, Cardinals, and Giants
  • Biggest upset: Cardinals as 8.5-point dogs beat the Chargers 26-14, about +370 on the moneyline
  • Lions -7 won by 1, so New Orleans covered despite losing

Good to know for Week 2

  • Lines often move after a game like Bears-Panthers, so compare Week 2 totals to Week 1
  • One wild game doesn't make a trend. Most games still landed in the 40s
  • Seattle and New England both struggled on offense, and Seattle may be without Sam Darnold after his hip injury
