Week 5 report card: graded on expectations, not just the scoreboard

Grades here are about expectations versus reality, not just who won. The betting line is the expectation. Beat it by a lot and you get an A, even in a loss. Win ugly when you were supposed to roll, and you get a D.

BBuccaneersFCowboys

24-16. Dallas was supposed to handle an 0-4 team at home. Instead Tampa ran it 39 times for 241 yards with an undrafted rookie at quarterback, and the Cowboys ran it 13 times and turned it over three.

DJaguarsCEagles

19-17. Jacksonville was a 7.5-point favorite and needed a 57-yarder with one second left to win by two. Philly covered on the road even with 22 rushing yards.

CJetsDBrowns

17-12. The Jets were favored by 2.5 and won by five on eight sacks and a late Braelon Allen run. The defense was great, the offense wasn't. Cleveland completed 15 of 33 and missed the extra point that would've changed the ending.

APackersDBears

31-7. Chicago was favored by 2.5 and lost by 24. Jordan Love went 25 of 31 for 367 and the defense forced five turnovers. The Bears were on their backup quarterback, which explains some of it but not all of it.

CBengalsCDolphins

31-24. Cincinnati was favored by 6.5 and won by seven, exactly as expected. Miami had scored 46 points all season and put up 24 with 217 rushing yards, which is more than anyone thought, in a loss.

APatriotsDRaiders

45-17. New England was favored by 3.5 and won by 28. Drake Maye accounted for five touchdowns and the Patriots gained 536 yards. Vegas came in 3-1 and ran for 38.

ATexansFTitans

26-3. Houston was favored by 7.5 in a game between two winless teams and won by 23. Tennessee never reached the end zone.

ASteelersDColts

34-22. Pittsburgh was favored by 2.5 and won by 12. Jaylen Warren scored on an 80-yard catch and a 50-yard run, and the Steelers didn't turn it over. Indy kicked five field goals and found the end zone once.

AVikingsDSaints

23-13. Minnesota was only favored by 2.5, the market didn't trust a 4-0 team. The Vikings won by 10 and held New Orleans to 142 yards. The Saints aren't a good team, and it showed.

DGiantsFCommanders

27-27 tie. Washington was favored by 3.5, got Jayden Daniels back, led by 14 with 11 minutes left, and blew it. The Giants missed three field goals that would've won the game. Nobody earned a good grade.

CBroncosDChargers

23-17. Denver was favored by 3.5 and covered, but trailed an 0-4 team 17-10 going into the fourth before scoring the last 13. The Chargers hung around, then collapsed again.

ALionsDCardinals

45-21. Detroit was favored by 5.5 on the road and won by 24. Arizona led 7-0, then gave up 24 in the second quarter. Not much was expected from the Cardinals, and they still came up short of it.

A49ersCSeahawks

32-29. Seattle was favored by 2.5 at home. San Francisco won anyway, banged up and on the road, on a 44-yarder with two minutes left. Seattle turned it over four times in a game it should've won.

ARavensDFalcons

30-23 OT. Atlanta was favored by 3 at home against a team starting its backup quarterback. Tyler Huntley tied it with 40 seconds left and won it in overtime. Michael Penix got hurt and Tua Tagovailoa threw the overtime pick.

ABillsCRams

37-34 OT. The Rams were favored by 2.5 at home. Buffalo ran for 234 yards and won it on a 45-yarder in overtime. Los Angeles played well enough to win and went 0 for 2 on field goals.
