Week 6 report card: offense, defense and a final grade for every team
All 14 games are in. Every team gets an offense grade and a defense grade, averaged into the final, with a nudge when a team really blew it against expectations.
Broncos 17, Seahawks 14 (OT), Thursday.
Broncos (offense F, defense A). Nix threw for 107 yards and got outgained by almost 200 at home, but the defense picked Darnold twice without Surtain, and Lutz hit from 53 in OT. Average it out and you get a C.
Seahawks (offense D-, defense B-). Outgained Denver 353-168 and lost. Darnold threw 51 times and the OT pick set up the winning kick.
Steelers 26, Buccaneers 19 (OT).
Steelers (offense C+, defense B-). Three quarters of nothing against a 1-4 team, then Rodgers caught fire. Five straight scoring drives erased a 16-3 fourth quarter hole, and rookie Germie Bernard caught the OT winner.
Buccaneers (offense D, defense C-). Jalon Daniels threw for 164 yards and two picks. The defense held Rodgers to 3 points for three quarters, then gave up 23. Blowing 13 at home is the headline.
Browns 13, Ravens 10.
Browns (offense D+, defense A-). Zero touchdown passes, zero picks, and a 37-yarder at the gun from Andre Szmyt. The defense shut Baltimore out after the first quarter. I'll take it every single week. 4-2, baby.
Ravens (offense D, defense B+). Up 10-0 after one quarter, then nothing. No Lamar again, Huntley threw for 165, and Derrick Henry put the ball on the ground.
Texans 34, Jaguars 31 (London).
Texans (offense A-, defense C-). Stroud went for 312 and three scores, Fairbairn hit a 49-yarder at the gun. Two straight wins after 0-4.
Jaguars (offense B+, defense D). Lawrence threw four TDs, but a defense that hadn't allowed more than 20 all year gave up 34.
Titans 26, Colts 20.
Titans (offense D, defense B). First win of the year, but Cam Ward threw for 102 yards. Special teams won this one: a blocked punt TD and four Slye field goals, one from 56.
Colts (offense D, defense D). Up 13-0 at halftime at home against a 1-4 team, then gave up 20 in the fourth. Jones threw two picks.
Panthers 25, Eagles 14.
Panthers (offense B+, defense A-). Bryce Young threw for 281 and two TDs (both to Tommy Tremble), Chuba ran for 120. Only thing keeping it from an A is 13 penalties for 149 yards.
Eagles (offense F, defense C). Tanner McKee started for Hurts. First five drives were punts. Four straight losses.
Bears 31, Falcons 23.
Bears (offense A, defense B). Caleb back from the hamstring and completed his first 12 throws, finishing 30-of-36 for 305. Kyler Gordon had three sacks and two forced fumbles. Points off for letting a 31-7 lead get interesting.
Falcons (offense C-, defense D). Penix played through the ribs and threw three TDs, but Zachariah Branch fumbled twice and Bijan got nine carries. Nine.
Saints 34, Giants 27.
Saints (offense B, defense C+). Shough played with two broken bones in his hand and still accounted for four TDs. 34 straight points, then nearly gave it back.
Giants (offense D+, defense F). Four turnovers, Winston benched down 34-10, and the defense gave up 34 straight. Nabers (12 for 165) and the McCarthy rally are the only reasons this isn't an F.
Patriots 26, Jets 19.
Patriots (offense B, defense B). Maye: three TDs, no picks. Third straight win.
Jets (offense C-, defense C). Omar Cooper's 48-yard score was nice, but you were down 17-3 at the half again.
Cardinals 18, Rams 16.
Cardinals (offense D+, defense A-). Double-digit dogs, won on the road. Zero touchdowns, but Chad Ryland went 6-for-6 including the walk-off from 43, and the defense held the Rams to 286 yards.
Rams (offense D-, defense B). At home, as a big favorite. A Higbee fumble, a failed 4th-and-1 and a false start ON fourth down. Last place in the NFC West.
Chiefs 22, Chargers 6.
Chiefs (offense B, defense A). Kenneth Walker ran for 128 and two scores. Mahomes didn't throw a TD and they still won by 16, since the defense held LA to two field goals.
Chargers (offense F, defense C-). Two field goals. Ten straight losses dating back to last December.
Bills 33, Raiders 30.
Bills (offense A-, defense D+). Allen threw two TDs and Cook ran for 95 and a score, but the defense gave up 30 again. 5-1 with a defense like this is living dangerously.
Raiders (offense B+, defense D+). Covered as 5.5-point dogs. Cousins threw for 313, Tre Tucker caught two TDs. Three straight losses though, so no participation trophy.
Packers 23, Cowboys 13 (SNF).
Packers (offense B-, defense A-). Love threw a TD and ran one in, the defense picked Dak twice. Matthew Golden had 104 yards but dropped two touchdowns.
Cowboys (offense D, defense C). Shut out in the first half for the first time since 2021. Dak threw two picks.
49ers 23, Commanders 17 (MNF).
49ers (offense B+, defense B-). McCaffrey had 117 total yards and two scores, and they ran for 126 as a team. 6-0, but Washington hung around way longer than a 7.5-point spread says it should.
Commanders (offense B, defense C-). Jayden Daniels looks fully back: 29-of-40, 300 yards, two TDs, no turnovers. The run game (53 yards) and a defense that let CMC do whatever he wanted cost them.
Byes: Dolphins, Bengals, Vikings, Lions.
